Changes to G Dundee Cardroom

by GDundeeCardroom on 18/08/2010

As of September there will be quite a few changes to the G Cardroom which will benefit both regular and new players. As many I’m sure are aware the G is situated right in the centre of town and attracts a lot of younger customers to the casino, some of which are still unsure about the game of poker. Our aim is to introduce new players to the game and hopefully build up the numbers for the tournaments/cash games in the G.

To do this I will be utilising the start of the week (Monday to Thursday) for beginner games to gently introduce new players into poker with small buy-ins and lots of chips to play with. This is not to say that our Dundee regulars are not welcome to play these tournaments/cash games, by all means you are more than welcome to attend, I only ask that you are patient with newer players and accept the fact that bad beats are inevitable. In the end it will be your playing styles that will teach them how to be good poker players. As a relatively new live poker player myself I have learnt a lot about playing styles from Dundee players. Even though most of you can read me just as easy as reading a kids Mr Men book I have to say that I have learnt to really enjoy the game. This will hopefully be the same for new and inexperienced players.

Friday to Sunday will be geared towards our more experienced players with slightly larger buy-ins and decent structures, again this is not to say that newer poker players are not welcome. The more the merrier as they say.

I will explain a bit more about some of the changes to the Cardroom as of September in a little bit, but for now onto the new schedule…

As per usual all games will be dealer dealt.

So that’s the new poker schedule for G Dundee as of September, now for the changes to the Cardroom…

To start with we will be introducing a Bad Beat Jackpot (BBJ) for both Tournaments and Cash Games. For the tournament, any player wishing to participate in the BBJ will be required to pay £1 extra with their tournament entry fee, all money received will be added to the Tournament BBJ and the new total figures will be displayed daily behind the Cardroom Desk for all to see. For the Cash BBJ all players who are playing in a raked cash game will be eligible for the BBJ. 10% of our 5% rake will be added back into the BBJ, for example, for every £5 we rake 50pence will go back into the BBJ, this will be updated and displayed behind the Cardroom desk every 24 hours.

On a Saturday and Sunday between the hours of 7.30pm and 10pm the cash games will be rake free, again a dealer will be provided.

Also there has been a bit of concern that poker players are not being rewarded with their loyalty in terms of Play Points. Well not any longer, we are going to introduce a random draw at the start of each tournament. Just before the tournament starts at either 6pm or 8pm there will be a random draw of seats and someone will win a whooping 2000 points which is equal to about £10 of Food and Bar products. To be eligible for this draw you will have had to register in person before the respective start times 6pm or 8pm and be in your seats for the draw, if you are not in your seat then the draw will be redone until a winner is found.

For the Cash Players there will be an award of 600 points for four hours continuous play (this doesn’t mean if you nip for the loo or for a cigarette you forgo your points). This is enough to get you a bacon roll for your morning stint on the cash table.

There will be Local Leagues for some games e.g. the Monday Dealers Choice Tournament. We will also be holding a Monthly Medal Tournament on the last Sunday of every month with the winner winning a seat into the annual Dundee G Casino Champion of Champions tournament. This will more than likely be a 12 handed freeroll for a winner takes all prize of £1,000. The winner also gets their name on a trophy which will be provided for the occasion. Details of these Medal Tournaments will be displayed in the Cardroom from September with times and dates for the rest of the year, the first of which being the 26th September. Information will also be advertised on the PID website as usual in the run up to these events.

Our aim is to be the best place for Poker in Dundee (the city not Martin Smith) and to do that we are going to continue to improve on our dealing and customer service to try and make your visit the best it possibly can be. We are hoping that the numbers will gradually increase through new players. However, you can help! The next time you visit bring a friend, get them involved and hopefully they will become one of the regular faces of the future.

Anyway that’s enough from me, feel free to leave comments and your thoughts and I will see you at the tables.

Well done, Vinnie. There are some great ideas there for both tournament and cash players. It’s good to see someone listening to the players for a change!

Good stuff.

I think this is a massive improvement to the G’s schedule. Also, the changes regards points (i’ve been saying to the gala to sort this for ages) rake and BBJ etc, it’s just nice little extras………

One point i would make, it says start of the week are tournaments geared towards people who don’t really know how to play poker etc…..Then the first tourney on a monday is a dealers choice game with variations of holdem and 7 card stud :D

I think this game should have been a higher buy in and end of the week, BUT I’M NIT PICKING :D

Should be good…

The Dealers Choice game is designed for the students that play every Monday at the union it will be sort of a league game although everyone is welcome to play, everything else during the week is geared towards new/inexperienced players who wish to play but can’t always afford the £50 games that you see all over the place.

I agree with what your saying though it would be a nice weekend tournament, who knows maybe in the future we will have one….

Sounds great to me, lets hope we can get the Dundee poker players to give it a chance.

Chico August 18, 2010 at 14:37

pretty decent schedule!

gogzee August 18, 2010 at 15:32

the problem on a monday will be prising people away from a tourney that has 80-90 runners every week £2 to enter and has £500 added to the prizepool

Alverton August 18, 2010 at 23:18

Well done Gogzee, nothing gets past you.

Scott Townshend August 19, 2010 at 14:27

I think you should change your Tuesday game, this is the only day of the week gala dont have any poker on and you have full control of the market, why not make it a £40 Deepstack, not many regs are going to be interested in playing a £10 triplechance with little prize money on offer.

Alverton August 19, 2010 at 17:48

Jedward speaks the truth. I’m surprised you haven’t changed the Tuesday tourney to something more attractive.

Martin Smith August 19, 2010 at 18:35

Maybe Vinnie doesn’t want to spoil the Tuesday night online $20 donkament on Stars.

Vinnie Millar August 20, 2010 at 17:10

I have more of a chance at more people, e.g. students/new players attending a £10 Triple Chance than I could get with a £40 game. We had our £10 + £5 + £5 on a Tuesday and it gets no more than 25 runners.

I would expect a £40 game on a Tuesday to get less numbers, especially if everyone has lost £50 on average the night before at the freeroll.

Also Martins right, I don’t fancy competing with the 5-15 players that play the PStars Donkement. lol
